Meibography helps us determine the condition of the meibomian glands on the eyelids. These glands secrete the oil that helps to lubricate the ocular surface. Congested or inflamed meibomian glands can lead to styes. When these glands are not functioning properly, it can lead to dry eyes. Meibography enables the assessment of gland structure and function over time. The procedure is quick and painless; patients are simply asked to look in different directions while the upper and lower eyelids are gently pulled up and down, respectively.
